this year i reprised my role as a wcus volunteer at the occ, helping out at the registration desk and happiness bar. a familiar collection of welcoming volunteers and organizers made me feel at home, and — job changes notwithstanding — still part of our vibrant community.

in addition to interacting with faces new and old, i was very happy to meet with several of my former colleagues who are still at a8c. the company recently returned to core, reversing a policy that to me was a prime example of becoming what you hate. the folks who make a8c so great deserve better than that, and the community ethos tattooed onto our souls working on the open source side needs to be celebrated and spread to the next generation of wordpress contributors.
