sticks
i mostly use promark forward 5b (hickory or firegrain), where the weight distribution lets me really thwap, and the thicker shoulder lasts longer — they can get pretty shredded with my abusive hats style. i sometimes wrap the grip with gamma overgrip tape or don my ahead gloves. my brother recently gifted me some lars signature sticks from ahead, but they’re slippery as hell and needed to be wrapped. for rudiment work i use john wooton’s “throwdowner” sticks to build strength and speed.
where I shop (mostly)
most of my gear is used! portland is home to the amazing revival drum shop. i can always come up with a good excuse to drop by (just ask my family). otherwise, craigslist and sweetwater always come in handy.
